Dr. Sue Huang has extensive experience as a soloist and chamber musician. She has been a pianist since the age of five, and her performing style is characterized by warmth, passion, and a deep musical understanding. She is highly experienced in art songs, opera, and choral music. She performed in major cities throughout the United States, Canada, Austria, China, and Taiwan. After performing with professional musicians in concerts and recitals, she has been invited to serve as a staff pianist for multiple voice competitions and masterclasses.
Dr. Huang won several solo piano competitions in Taiwan and performed recitals in China, Taiwan, and the U.S. by invitation. She has also won several important scholarships in the course of her graduate studies and was notably awarded the Taiwanese American Charity and Education Association Music Scholarship by competitive selection and performed by invitation in Washington D. C. (2013) for this national organization. Besides the many famous music festivals she was invited to attend, Dr. Huang also had opportunities to work closely with living composers for their own compositions including Libby Larsen, Jake Heggie, John Adams, John Harbison, and John Musto.
Dr. Huang received the Master of Music degree in piano performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University (2011) and completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the University of North Texas (2019), where she held an Accompanying Teaching Fellowship, and serves additionally as Choral Accompanying Teaching Assistant from 2012 to 2016.
From 2016 to 2018, Dr. Huang was the collaborative piano fellow at Bard College Conservatory of Music, working closely with Grammy Award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw, vocal coach Kayo Iwama, Erika Switzer, and collaborative piano faculty Frank Corliss.
With more than 10 years of experience as a piano teacher, Dr. Huang possesses a strong ability to help each student build a solid foundation of music learning and piano techniques. Dr. Huang has years of experience educating a diverse group of students, from pre-kindergarten to adulthood. Her students scored highly in various piano tests such as the RCM exam, ABRSM, and theory exams, and won awards in various music competitions.
